The Wellesbourne

Last night a group of us went to The Wellesbourne, a recently opened old-English style bar in West LA.

The Wellesbourne offer classic cocktails such as Tom Collins, Greyhound, Sidecar and Gimlet, (though I stuck with wine, which was served in a thick crystal glass!) and is decorated in a glamorous old school style.

The space is composed of a few different rooms and features dark wood, gilded mirrors, plush sofas, and stacked books. There is also a games room with foosball, which is kind of amazing! I loved the old fashioned feel of the place and that it felt inviting and not stuffy.

The drinks were good, the music was fun and the decor was gorgeous...and the bartenders in bow ties didn't hurt! I will definitely be back.

Rose Bowl Flea Market

The Rose Bowl flea market happens on the second Sunday each month, and it is a crazy, bustling, exciting place. There are loads of vendors selling great antique furniture, vintage clothes and jewelry, and interesting (if not entirely necessary) knick knacks.

You can definitely expect to find something unique, and I suggest bringing an SUV or a bigger car...you never know, you might just find the amazing hardwood armoire of your dreams!

Country Strong

I recently saw Country Strong, and I was very impressed-the movie was well done, well acted, and entertaining.

I particularly loved Gwyneth Paltrow and Leighton Meester's glamorous/country ensembles. I appreciated that the characters didn't wear outfits that screamed "country" but rather incorporated slight Western influences to their style. I love the idea of a chic dress with cowboy boots, or Gwyneth's big Texas hair with an asymmetrical little black dress - I feel like they were going for a modern country star look, and I think they got it spot on.

Fashion aside, I am also obsessed with the soundtrack. I can't stop singing the catchy songs from the movie which I'm sure is getting annoying...partly because I'm a terrible singer, but mainly because the only lyrics I know are "Cuz I'm country strooong!".

Besides my terrible singing, Country Strong makes me want to incorporate a little bit of Western style into my outfits...and also makes me wish I was a (less tragic) country singer.

Go see the movie if you haven't already!

Food Trucks

The concept of food trucks may seem a little iffy, but these mobile restaurants are most definitely not your typical "street meat". Food trucks have become an LA phenomenon with huge line ups (if you're lucky enough to find a truck), religious Twitter followers, and even a reality show.

Now, you don't have to pray to find your favorite truck or be stuck to the computer hoping to find out it's locations. Many of the trucks now congregate at certain locations throughout the city for a...food truck festival, I guess!

On Tuesday nights there are lots of food trucks in the parking lot of The Victorian (which I blogged about here), and you can get your tacos/pho/curry/sliders to go and sit on the patio of the Victorian with a glass of wine or in the Basement Tavern to enjoy live music.

We did this last night and I had amazing Vietnamese from Phamish, and my friend was very excited to find that one of our favorite Italian restaurants, Maria's Italian Kitchen, now has a truck. Yum!
